A Detroit native, Lucy earned a BFA in Glass from the College for Creative Studies in 2007. From 2011–2015, she taught 3D Design, Beginning Glassblowing, and Glass Casting, discovering a passion for teaching while reigniting her own craft. In 2015, she entered the Art and Art History MFA program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where Hawaii’s landscapes inspired her study of texture, pattern, and organic connections. Her practice extends beyond glass to illustration, wood, and metal. She later completed a Master’s in Architecture at Cranbrook Academy of Art.

In 2020, she moved to the Southwest and established Empty the Cup Studio, a mobile glass studio in Mancos, Colorado. Her practice is rooted in observational studies and direct engagement with place, especially enclosed outdoor spaces. A maker and craftsperson above all else, she explores material tactility and traditional craft, pushing materials beyond convention through stylization, gesture, and unexpected relationships.
